What is INPP Therapy? From the Institute of Neuro-Physiological Psychology in Chester, UK ...
An Initial consultation takes place where a screening questionnaire is completed. This details a full developmental history about your child and identifies problem areas. This questionnaire and consultation helps to determine direction of the assessment and therapy programme process. ie: Which combination of INPP, JIAS, Remedial Lessons and their order/priority for this child. Complementary modalities may be referred to, at anytime along this process. The Consultation takes approximately 1 hour.
The assessment includes a range of extensive non-invasive neurological tests to assess the following skills...- Gross and fine muscle coordination
- Balance
- Patterns of motor development
- Reflexes
- Laterality
- Oculo-motor functioning
- Visual perception and motor integration
The parent is present during this assessment which takes about 2 hours. After the assessment, a brief verbal review will be given and an educational report will be written up and sent out within 2 weeks of the assessment . Based on the findings, an individual programme of
daily physical exercises is prescribed. These movements/exercises stimulate
maturation within the central nervous system.
The exercises are based on early movements made by the developing infant/toddler in the initial stages of life. They are designed to retrain the reflex pathways and thus improve the control of balance, posture, voluntary movement, visual functioning and perceptual abilities.
A typical programme will take about 5-10 minutes a day over a period of 12 months. Progress is reviewed every 8 weeks and exercises are changed when appropriate. Reviews take approximately 45 minutes.
Designed to be used independently or concurrently with the INPP programme.

During the Audiogram assessment, the left and right ears are tested and ear dominance is determined. The Audiogram indicates hearing ability and auditory perception at a various frequency and decibel levels. It also helps to identify areas of weakness in language perception as well as hyper and hypo sensitivity to sounds. A Laterality test is also completed during this time. The assessment takes about 2 hours.
Upon completion of the assessment, a
brief verbal review of findings will be discussed and recommendations made.
A written educational report will be sent out 2 weeks after your initial
assessment.
The stimulation programme involves listening to a series of specially recorded music CD's for 10 minutes a day, 6 days a week, for a specified time frame. The average programme takes 9 months.
The CD's can be listened to at any time of the day, through headphones (with a definite left and right ear) on a personal stereo. CD's are specific to individuals and may not be listened to by anyone else.
Reviews are carried out after the specified listening period. Reviews are required to determine any changes that have taken place in the listening profile. An audiogram is required at each review. A new CD is then made, based on the changes indicated by the new Audiogram results. Previous CD's must be destroyed. Reviews take approximately 45 minutes.
