Introduction

Welcome to Listening for Learning. We work with children who have learning difficulties, sensory issues or who have symptoms of being on the Autism Spectrum.

We do readiness for school checks to identify, diminish or remediate any symptoms that could cause problems later.

We work with older children, teenagers and adults who have had difficulties and want to look at other ways to optimise their learning or work opportunities.

We have a holistic approach to ensuring learning success. During an initial consultation we complete a comprehensive background check, including a history of maternal health during pregnancy, difficulties during pregnancy and birth, and health during the initial years especially ear, nose and throat (ENT), digestive or dietary issues, medications and allergic reactions.

Our initial focus is to identify if the ABCs of learning are in place - Attention, Balance and Coordination. This reflects the maturation of the Central Nervous System. From there we go to the Sensory Processing Level and check how well information is being perceived, integrated and retrieved when needed, via the ears and eyes.

Initial diagnostics enable us to identify if there are any 'minimal' neuro-physiological causes for learning difficulties. These minimal 'glitches' are what enable these children to be missed and fall through the gaps in the school system. Often they don't seem to be 'bad enough' for 'enough of the time' to 'draw attention' or to be 'given labels'.

From there, we design an individual programme of remediation. This could include any combination of movement exercises, auditory stimulation, vision therapy, dietary adjustments, cranial osteopathy or remedial lessons, to catch up and fill in knowledge gaps that have formed over time, due to these 'minor glitches'.

Positive mind empowerment is also important for older students to regain confidence and self esteem. Coaching to understand personal learning styles and techniques to enhance individual leaning and exam strategy could be part of the individual plan.

In essence we aim to remove any 'road blocks', to allow messages to move between the brain and the body at optimum speed for accuracy, at all times, especially when under stress. Like going from 'dial up' to 'super broad band'.

We are not changing the essence of the person, just helping them to bring out the best in themselves, and to be proud to be who they really are ...  The Prideful Peacock !

Philosophy

Your child has a clever brain, it is just a little 'out of sync' with its body. We aim to get the brain and the body communicating better with each other and support the normal process of sensory integration and attention, balance and coordination - the ABCs of Learning.

Once the basic building blocks are in place and the roadblocks have been removed the body can heal itself. A gentle, non invasive, drug free alternative, a second chance at natural Central Nervous System maturation.

We invite you to come visit our clinic and learn more about our philosophy of helping your child to be the best that they can be and for preparing them for success.

Ros enjoys working with individual students that 'fly under the radar', 'slip through the gaps' who are not eligible for support but need it, the so called 'naughty kids', the ones who are often told they are 'lazy' or 'could do better' or have a 'bad work ethic' . The ones who have had 'every intervention' but nothing seems to be working. The misunderstood ones. The most challenging, but also the most rewarding. Ros also enjoys supporting these students as they transition from school to the world of work.
